Byrdie Announces Fourth Annual Eco Beauty Award Winners

NEW YORK, April 20, 2020 — Today Byrdie announced the winners of its fourth annual Eco Beauty Awards, honoring the best clean beauty brands that employ and emphasize non-toxic ingredients, innovation, and sustainability. Winners were tested and analyzed by Byrdie’s editors and industry-leading guest judges using Byrdie’s proprietary clean beauty standards. Our 2020 winners represent the best in clean, eco-friendly beauty solutions.

Byrdie’s expert editors and guest judges tested thousands of products throughout the year and nominated over 300 finalists that qualified as “clean” according to Byrdie’s Clean Beauty Pledge. The winners were narrowed down based on three key criteria: ingredients (are they high-quality and non-toxic?), sustainability (does creation consider environmental impact or charitable elements?), and efficacy (does it work?). This year’s winners include some of the top brands and products to watch across skincare, haircare, and makeup including W3ll People, Weleda, Josie Maran, and Kosas

Byrdie invited a board of expert guest editors to help evaluate the top contenders: Katherine Martinko, Senior Editor at Dotdash’s TreeHugger; Romain Gaillard, Founder of The Detox Market; Braina Laviena, Model and Clean Beauty Advocate; and Tennille Murphy, Sustainable Living Influencer. The guest editors collaborated with Byrdie’s editorial team to curate the final winners list.

“The 4th annual Eco Beauty Awards exemplify Byrdie’s fundamental commitment to prioritizing clean beauty and celebrating brands that are raising the bar for efficacious, yet ethical, products,” said Leah Wyar, VP/General Manager, Beauty & Style. “Given the renewed importance of prioritizing our health and well-being, we believe this roundup of 53 products is more valuable than ever.”

The word “sustainable,” “eco-friendly,” and “Conscious” have always been popular among the leading fashion brands. They have been vocal about employment and emphasis on non-toxic ingredients, innovation, and sustainability. It was believed that the trend of fast-fashion had been embraced very well by the leading brands, but they failed to initiate the direction of a sustainable product. But many leading fashion giants have gone out of their way to support the start-ups for taking initiatives for sustainable fashion. The latter are coming up with innovative solutions to comply with this notion.
